Historical Guide
For a historical perspective on the major categories of hardware featured at Whitechapel, see our Technical & Historical Guide for Furnituremakers.

Your Account
You need not create a personal account to order from our catalog. However, doing so will alleviate the need to reenter personal information such as billing and shipping addresses on subsequent orders with Whitechapel. Personal accounts are provided only as a convenience and any information will be securely stored and held in the strictest confidentiality. We do not store and payment information, such as credit card numbers.

Search Tips
If you don't have a copy of our print catalog you can order one here ($5, free shipping). If you already own a copy, you can enter the bold italicized product codes from the catalog in our search engine (located in the upper left corner on every page of this site). Clicking the product in the search results will often provide additional information not found in the catalog.

Furthermore, many of our online product descriptions include references to product codes which, if entered into our search engine (we suggest copy and pasting) will lead to related products which are either similar in nature or are compatible with the original product.

Shop Hours
We are open for business between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Mountain Standard Time (MST).

Secure Shopping
All orders placed with Whitechapel are encrypted using SSL technology. We verify the validity of credit card information before processing your order. Credit cards are not processed in real-time in order to protect you and us from credit card fraud.

For greatest security we recommend that you do not place orders (with us or anybody else) from publicly available computers such as found in internet cafes.

Regarding Our Product Codes
The fittings in our catalog come from a wide variety of manufacturers, both European and domestic. The manufacturing methods range from hand forging with hammer and anvil to computer controlled turning on automated lathes. To simplify the selection of a group of products that will be compatible  both in finish and manufacturing style we have developed a system of codes.

Next to each item is a code number. This number indicates a particular manufacturer or in some cases two or three manufacturers with similar methods and finishes. Though you can use these codes as a rough guide when selecting groups of matching fittings your eye should be the final judge. It is possible that styles within a manufacturers range may not match, just as well matched groups of items from a variety of codes can be assembled.

Message from the Owner

Dear Customer,

Here we are at the end of 2003 with some significant changes. I have tried to ensure the best parts of Whitechapel Ltd. remain while the rest is improved for our mutual benefit.

Last summer we moved into our new purpose built office and warehouse. This building is four times the size of our previous compact accommodation and should allow us a few years of comfortable growth. It is a contemporary design that draws on themes found in the earlier architecture of this region and works as an interesting counterpoint to the traditional goods we sell. I am comfortable with a foot in each camp and have enjoyed designing some of the internal furnishings. Please visit our Building Page to see photos of the building and its contents.

As in the past, we have added hundreds of new items in all categories, this time with particular emphasis placed on architectural fittings. We have seen steady growth in this area and can now offer many more options that combine European character with American expectations of function and security.

In many cases we now stock additional finishes on existing products. Polished nickel is a much requested finish and where appropriate it is now available. Solid bronze is less sought as yet, but polished or with its naturally occurring patina, is both beautiful and durable. We have included a number of architectural fittings in this metal.

We continue our effort to elevate the quality of what we offer. We work with our manufacturers to improve existing products and design new ones. Our commitment to European and American products is still intact. While I know that many products from the Far East are good quality the fact that they can be made so cheap makes me suspect that thinly disguised slave labor plays a much greater part in their manufacture than is readily acknowledged.

I'm convinced there will always be a demand for the vast range of interesting and often idiosyncratic products that only the smaller manufacturers seem interested in making. Whitechapel Ltd. will remain a reliable source for these products and we will do our best to ensure those companies continue in business.

Best Wishes,
Bob Dunstan
