Shop for Transom/Fanlight Fittings
In the U.S., the architectural term transom is used to describe a horizontally rectangular window positioned immediately above a door. Transoms traditionally hinge at the bottom and swing open and inward from the top and are held closed by a catch that is normally out of reach, hence the need for specialized transom fittings.

In England, transoms are typically referred to as fanlights owing to the semicircular or semi-elliptical shape of the window.
Transoms/fanlights might also be found above other, larger, windows as in the photo on the right.
